Indeed I DO have a fabulous project to work on over the summer (and beyond). Right after my last post, a colleague, Carrie Ruckel, who has worked at CAN TV for years and is the director of a weekly show "Chicago Newsroom," and I started preproduction for a new show. "Rebel Rebel." It will be a platform for Chicago community members to share tactics for activism, protest, and resistance while building alliances and encouraging creative action.
Already we have received so much support from our community. Jannelle Whilte, another CAN TV colleague with many years of media experience under her belt, designed our logo. Michelle Graves, a friend who graduated from the same MFA program I did, is responsible for the lovely banners that will be the main focus of our set. Faiz Razi, also a friend from grad school, composed and recorded music for the opening sequence. Several friends gave us protest photos to use for the opening sequence as well. And Enrique Palomino, a student from NIU in my Video Art class, came to Chicago early on Saturday morning to help us put up the banners in the studio and do lighting tests (that's him in the photo above).
I am so happy to be working on this project. It is my hope we can connect different organizations together to fight for our rights in these dark times, and inspire individuals to take part in shaping a just world.
